January 20th 2016 Swatch - Garter Lace

The swatch for the 20th is a lace cloth.

Garter Lace Swatch


Materials:  1 skein of cotton yarn in a solid color.  #7 US Knitting Needles
Notes: YO = Yarn Over / K2Tog = Knit 2 stitches together
This design would make a great dishcloth or scarf pattern.  I am currently using it on a scarf.

Multiple of 10 + 1 stitches + border of 2 stitches)
Cast on 23 stitches

Border:
Knit 2 rows
Pattern:
Row 1:        Knit across
Row 2:        K4, K2Tog, YO, K1, YO, K2Tog, K5, K2Tog, YO, K1, YO, K2Tog, K4.
Row 3:        Knit across.
Row 4:        K3, K2Tog, YO, K3, YO, K2Tog, K3, K2Tog, YO, K3, YO, K2Tog, K3.
Row 5:        Knit across.
Row 6:        K2, *K2Tog, YO, K5, YO, K2Tog, K1; Repeat from * to end, K1.
Row 7:        Knit across.
Row 8:        K2, *YO, K2Tog, K5, K2Tog YO, K1; Repeat from * to end, K1.
Row 9:        Knit across
Row 10:      K3, YO, K2Tog, K3, K2Tog, YO, K3, YO, K2Tog, K3, K2Tog, YO, K3.
Row 11:      Knit across
Row 12:      K4, YO, K2Tog, K1, K2Tog, YO, K5, YO, K2Tog, K1, K2Tog, YO, K4.

Repeat above 12 rows 2 times, repeat rows 1 through 7 and then knit the border:

Border:
Knit 2 rows
Bind off.
Weave in ends.

Garter Lace Dishcloth:
If you would like to use this design to make a cloth you can follow the below pattern, if you would like to start a scarf using this design then I would stick to the swatch using 23 stitches which is perfect for a scarf.

Cast on:      37 (Multiple of 10 + 1, 30 + 1 + 6 border = 37)
Border:
Knit 4 rows
Pattern:
Row 1:        Knit across
Row 2:        K6, *K2Tog, YO, K1, YO, K2Tog, K5; repeat from * to last 11 stitches: K2Tog, YO, K1, YO, K2Tog, K6.
Row 3:        Knit across.
Row 4:        K5, *K2Tog, YO, K3, YO, K2Tog, K3: Repeat from * to last 12 stitches: K2Tog, YO, K3, YO, K2Tog, K5.
Row 5:        Knit across.
Row 6:        K4, *K2Tog, YO, K5, YO, K2Tog, K1; Repeat from * to end, K3.
Row 7:        Knit across.
Row 8:        K4, *YO, K2Tog, K5, K2Tog YO, K1; Repeat from * to end, K3.
Row 9:        Knit across
Row 10:      K5, *YO, K2Tog, K3, K2Tog, YO, K3: Repeat from * to last 12 stitches: YO, K2Tog, K3, K2Tog, YO, K3.
Row 11:      Knit across
Row 12:      K6, *YO, K2Tog, K1, K2Tog, YO, K5:Repeat from * to last 10 stitches: YO, K2Tog, K1, K2Tog, YO, K6.

Repeat above 12 rows till desired length then work border:

Knit 4 rows
Bind off.
Weave in ends.
