November 20th 2016 Swatch - Diamond Lace

November 5th 2016 Swatch – Diamond Lace

.

Level of Difficulty:

Materials:  1 skein yarn, #6 US Knitting Needles
Cast on:  Multiple of 6 + 3 (12 + 3 + 6 Border = 21)  Cast on 21 stitches

This would make a great scarf or table cloth.

Notes:  SSK:  Slip 1, Slip 1, K2together; K2Tog: knit 2 stitches together; SK2P: Slip 1, K2Tog, pass slip stitch over.

Border:
Row 1:           Knit across.
Row 2:           Knit across.

Pattern:
Row 1:           (WS) B3, P15, B3
Row 2:           B3, K1, *YO, SSK, K1, YO, K2Tog, K1; repeat from * to last 5: YO, SSK, B3.
Row 3:           B3, P15, B3.
Row 4:           B3, K2, *YO, SSK, K1, K2Tog, YO, K1; repeat from * to last 4: K1, B3.
Row 5:           B3, P15, B3.
Row 6:           B3, K3, *YO, SKP2, YO, K3; repeat from * to end, B3.
Row 7:           B3, P15, B3.
Row 8:           B3, K1, *YO, K2Tog, K1, YO, SSK, K1; repeat from * to last 5: YO, K2Tog, B3.
Row 9:           B3, P15, B3.
Row 10:        B3, K2, *K2Tog, YO, K1, YO, SSK, K1; repeat from * to last 4: K1, B3.
Row 11:        B3, P15, B3.
Row 12:        B3, K1, K2Tog, YO, *K3, YO, SK2P, YO; repeat from * to last 9: K3, YO, SSK, K1, B3.

Border:
Row 1:           Knit across.
Row 2:           Knit across.

This design is done with multiple of 6 stitches + 3. If you want to do a cloth or other item, take that into consideration.  I think this is a little lacy for a cloth or towel but you can adapt it for a cloth.

November 5th 2016 Swatch Loop Stitch

November 5th 2016 Swatch – Loop Stitch

Copyright © Janet Nogle 2016

Materials:  1 skein yarn, #6 US Knitting Needles
Cast on:  Multiple of 2 + 2 (16+2+4=22)  Cast on 22 stitches
This would make a great Place Mat or cloth.

Border:
Row 1:           Knit across.
Row 2:           Knit across.

Pattern:
Row 1:           Knit across.
Row 2:           K2, *K1, Sl 1; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, K4.
Row 3:           Knit across.
Row 4:           K2, *Sl 1, K1; repeat from *, end K2.

Border:
Row 1:           Knit across.
Row 2:           Knit across.

If you are interested in making a dishcloth I would recommend using 30 + 2 + 6 Border = 38 stitches.  Then follow the instructions above working border stitches for each side instead of 2.

October 20th 2016 Swatch - Moss Lace

October 20th 2016 Swatch – Moss Lace

Copyright © Janet Nogle 2016

Materials:
1 Skein of Cotton yarn
#6 Knitting Needle
Cast on multiple of 8 + 1 + border (16+1+4=21):

Notes:  SKP = Slip 1, Knit 1, Pass slip st over
SK2P = Slip 1, Knit 2 Together, pass slip st over
K2Tog = Knit 2 stitches together
YO = Yarn over
B = Border

Border:
Row 1-2:     Knit across.
Pattern:
Row 1:        B2, K1, *YO, SKP, K3, K2Tog, YO, K 1; Rep from *, end B2
Row 2:        B2, P17, B2.
Row 3:        B2, *K2, YO, SKP, K1, K2Tog, YO, K1; Rep from *, end K1, B2.
Row 4:        B2, P17, B2
Row 5:        B2, *K3, YO, SK2P, YO, K2; Rep from *, end K1, B2.
Row 6:        B2, P17, B2.
Row 7:        B2, (K1, P1) Across to border:  B2.
Row 8:        B2, (K1, P1) Across to border:  B2.
Row 9:        B2, (K1, P1) Across to border:  B2.
Row 10:      B2, (K1, P1) Across to border:  B2.
Border:
Row 1-2:     Knit across.
Bind off
Weave in ends.
(I completed the 10 row set, two more times then bound off).

Moss Lace Dishcloth:

You would then follow the above 10 rows for the pattern.  I would suggest casting on (24+1+8 = 33 stitches or 41 for a larger cloth.

Work the 10 repeat rows only substituting 4 stitches for each side of the border instead of 2 stitches on each side.  You can work this design without the moss rows if you like by deleting rows 7-10 and adding a knit row and a purl row and starting the lace portion again.  It would give you a “V” lace cloth.

October 5th 2016 Swatch - Diagonal Check Pattern

Here is our first swatch for October.  This is unique in that it looks the same on both sides so you don't really have a traditional "wrong side".

October 5th 2016 Swatch – Diagonal Check Pattern

Copyright © Janet Nogle 2016

Level of Difficulty:  Easy

Materials:
1 Skein of Cotton yarn
#6 Knitting Needle
Cast on: Multiple of 15 + Border (15 + 4 = 19)

Cast on:  19

Border:
Row 1-2:     Knit across.

Pattern:
Row 1:        (RS) K2, *P1, K4*; repeat between *’s, end K2
Row 2:        (WS) K2, *P3, K2*; repeat between *’s, end K2.
Row 3:        K2, *P3, K2*; repeat between *’s, end, K2.
Row 4:        K2, *P1, K4*; repeat between *’s, end K2.
Row 5:        K2, *K1, P4*; repeat between *’s, end K2.
Row 6:        K2, *K3, P2*; repeat between *’s, end K2.
Row 7:        K2, *K3, P2*; repeat between *’s, end K2.
Row 8:        K2, *K1, P4*; repeat between *’s, end K2.

Repeat rows 1-8 for pattern till desired length.  I repeated rows 1 x 8 three more times.

Border:
Row 1-2:     Knit across.
Bind off
Weave in ends.

Diagonal Check Dishcloth:
This makes a great cloth because it looks the same on both sides so there really isn’t a wrong side like usual.

I would Cast On 38 for washcloth (15 X 2 = 30 = 8 Border = 38)

Work rows 1-8 as documented above only change border stitches to 4 stitches for each side.

September 20th 2016 Swatch - Signs of August

September 20th 2016 Swatch – Signs of August

Level of Difficulty:
Easy

Materials:
1 Skein of Cotton yarn
#6 Knitting Needle
Cast on 22:

Notes:  SKP = Slip 1, Knit 1, Pass slip st over
K2Tog = Knit 2 stitches together
When doing a YO P1, make sure you make a complete YO.
After doing a Purl stitch if you see the next instruction as “YO” leave the yarn where it is, it will already be in place for the next stitch.

Border:
Row 1-2:     Knit across.
Pattern:
Row 1:        K2, P1, YO, K3, K2Tog, P1, SKP, K3, YO,P1, YO, K3, K2Tog, K2.
Row 2:        K2, P18, K2.
Row 3:        K2, P1, K1, YO, K2, K2Tog, P1, SKP, K2, YO, K1, P1, K1, YO, K2, K2Tog, K2.
Row 4:        K2, P18, K2
Row 5:        K2, P1, K2, YO, K1, K2Tog, P1, SKP, K1, YO, K2, P1, K2, YO, K1, K2Tog, K2.
Row 6:        K2, P18, K2.
Row 7:        K2, P1, K3, YO, K2Tog, P1, SKP, YO, K3, P1, K3, YO, K2Tog, K2.
Row 8:        K2, P18, K2.
Row 9:        K2, P1, SKP, K3, YO, P1, YO, K3, K2Tog, P1, SKP, K3, YO, K2.
Row 10:      K2, P18, K2.
Row 11:      K2, P1, SKP, K2, YO, K1, P1, K1, YO, K2, K2Tog, P1, SKP, K2, YO, K1, K2.
Row 12:      K2, P18, K2.
Row 13:      K2, P1, SKP, K1, YO, K2, P1, K2, YO, K1, K2Tog, P1, SKP, K1, YO, K2, K2.
Row 14:      K2, P18, K2.
Row 15:      K2, P1, SKP, YO, K3, P1, K3, YO, K2Tog, P1, SKP, YO, K3, K2.
Row 16:      K2, P18. K2.
Row 17:      K2, P1, YO, K3, K2Tog, P1, SKP, K3, YO, P1, YO, K3, K2Tog, K2.
Row 18:      K2, P18, K2.
Row 19:      K2, P1, K1, YO, K2, K2Tog, P1, SKP, K2, YO, K1, P1, K1, YO, K2, K2Tog, K2.
Row 20:      K2, P18, K2.
Row 21:      K2, P1, K2, YO, K1, K2Tog, P1, SKP, K1, YO, K2, P1, K2, YO, K1, K2Tog, K2.
Row 22:      K2, P18, K2.
Row 23:      K2, P1, K3, YO, K2Tog, P1, SKP, YO, K3, P1, K3, YO, K2Tog, K2.
Row 24:      K2, P18, K2.

Border:
Row 1-2:     Knit across.
Bind off
Weave in ends.

Signs of Autumn Dishcloth:
Because this particular design uses 18 stitches, multiple 18 by the size you want.  I would recommend doing 36 + border of 8 stitches = 44 cast on stitches.

You would then follow the above 24 rows for the pattern.  You will be doing the stitches between the border stitches in the swatch twice. Example, for row 19 you would do the following:
K4, *P1, K1, YO, K2, K2Tog, P1, SKP, K2, YO, K1, P1, K1, YO, K2, K2Tog*; repeat between the *’s, end K4.

Row 9 would require you to do this:
K4, *P1, SKP, K3, YO, P1, YO, K3, K2Tog, P1, SKP, K3, YO*; repeat between the *’s, end K4. (You would do the “YO” at the end, and then go to the *P1, SKP, K3 and so on.)
